The 50-mile stretch of the Norfolk Southern railroad from Broadway, Virginia, where I live, to Strasburg, has been unused for many years. It was built in the 19th century and is within the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields National Historic District. At places it runs next to the North Fork of the Shenandoah River and it passes through a number of small towns including Timberville, Mt. Jackson, Edinburg, Woodstock and Toms Brook.
A current and popular proposal would convert this line into a multi-use trail, ending either in Strasburg or farther north in Front Royal. I hope this this is built, and before I am too old to use it.
I am enjoying exploring and photographing this line, observing how nature is reclaiming the space. I have been working primarily in black and white. For some images I used a small drone, most often to get higher angles than I could with a tripod on the ground.
